🌵 BACK IN ARIZONA — WHERE EVERYTHING WANTS TO HURT YOU 🔥 Another season in the Sonoran Desert, and the land wasted no time reminding us who’s in charge. This weekend’s search took us through the full gauntlet of desert armor — chain cholla, teddy bear cholla, jumping cholla, saguaro, barrel cactus, ocotillo, palo verde, mesquite, catclaw, ironwood and more. Every plant out here is built for survival, and every one of them demands respect. At the end of the day, I found myself pulling a cholla ball out of my leg and pants with a comb 🪮🌵 — a small glimpse of the reality we navigate mile after mile. The desert does not forgive. It does not soften for humanitarian volunteers, and certainly not for the people forced to risk everything crossing it. And that’s the heart of it: We choose to be here. Migrants don’t.
