Yes there is great beauty in the Sonoran Desert. Freshly blooming poppies, water in a rock depression, curious shaped roots and pieces of wood and an ancient saguaro in its final stage of life. The skeletal saguaro ribs clap in the wind as we search the surrounding desert for the lost but not forgotten.
We have found so many sites with human remains in the last few months. And while we did see some signs of travelers passing through, it was good to not locate any of the fallen today. Today we got to take in the beauty of the desert.
But we are ever conscious of how this beautiful and sacred place has been turned into a killing, concealing and disappearing weapon by our policies and practices. A place where the stewards of this sacred land choose to let the animals, insects and the environment consume precious souls.
We are the Battalion Search and Rescue and we search for the lost but not forgotten.
Somos el Batallón de Búsqueda y Rescate y buscamos a los perdidos pero no olvida...
