We are named after the Saint Patrick's Battalion. They were predominantly Irish immigrants who followed  their conscience. They joined Mexico and fought against the US during the unjust Mexican-American "War". The San Patricios participated in many of the bloodiest battles during the American invasion of Mexico. After fighting valiantly during many battles in Mexico the remaining San Patricios were captured near Mexico City. 50 members were officially executed by hanging over 3 days. Collectively, this was the largest mass execution in United States history. US Army Gen. Winfield Scott ordered the executions and Col. William Harney carried out the orders. Harney was taunted and jeered by the condemned men. While overseeing the hangings, Harney ordered Francis O'Connor hanged although he had had both legs amputated the previous day.
