Although "education" appears front and center in the mission statement for Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument a culture of hate, disinformation and denial exists on their website and through their culture and practices. Desperate migrants and refugees that die alone by the hundreds in this National Park suffer horribly. Sometimes they even place their heads in burrows made by wild animals in a final attempt to escape the blistering temperatures of the summer. It seems the National Park Service also chooses to "stick their head in the sand" but for a different reason. Instead of adopting a culture of compassion and transparency that could set an example for the agency they blatantly hide and prevent the recovery of hundreds and hundreds of horrible fatalities. Through road closures and selective enforcement, the National Park restricts access for vital humanitarian search and rescue efforts.
