“It was heartbreaking when we saw [our home], all of our stuff was in there. We were hoping for the best because that house has been there since 1960 — it’s been through so many hurricanes, we thought it was going to still be standing.”
Sadly, Elizabeth Weaver’s home in Bonita Springs was destroyed by the devastating impacts of Hurricane Ian last year. She and her 8-week-old baby Madilyn sought refuge at a Red Cross shelter, where volunteer nurses like Susan Lee regularly checked in on her to ensure she had enough diapers and baby formula throughout her stay.
This is one of the many ways our volunteers help comfort people affected by climate-driven disasters that are increasing in frequency and severity every year. With your continued support on Red Cross Giving Day and beyond, our volunteers can provide mothers like Elizabeth with essential items to care for their families when they have lost everything.
