After the pandemic decimated its ranks, Sam Houston High’s band director Bruce Adams built a new, and ultimately award-winning, marching band. “It was probably one of the biggest challenges I’ve ever had in my life,” Adams said. With only one member having experience performing at Fiesta, the group won two awards at the Battle of Flowers Band Festival – first place in the 4A Division and the Chairman’s Best Entertainment award. After its award-winning performance and appearances in both the Battle of Flowers and Flambeau parades, the band was recognized by City Council, but not before it brought the house down.
