Today is the International Day for the Right to the Truth concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and the Dignity of Victims. This day commemorates the memory of victims of human rights violations and promotes the right to truth, justice, and reparations.
When survivors share their stories, it sheds light on their experience and brings the truth out into the light.
🕯️We know in Canada there are many individuals who have experienced human rights violations at the hands of the government, church, or institutions in power. During the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, survivors of residential schools were able to share their stories and bring the truth out into the open. It is imperative we continue to hear these stories, believe survivors, and do everything we can to bring the perpetrators to account in order to effect change. 🕯️
