Although it’s been a chilly weekend on the island, it’s rare to see Galveston’s historic homes blanketed in snow. Yet one year ago this week, the island, the beach, and the ~1880 Gustave Heye House were exactly that—covered in white. ❄️ Snow or not, today’s #StormSurvivorSunday features one of the island’s most mysterious and talked-about homes. Its weathered boards quietly remind us of the passage of time and the lives that came before. Built for German immigrant and businessman Gustave Heye and his wife, Adelheid, this home sheltered the Heye family from the day they moved in, through the Great Storm of 1900, and the loss of many family members all the way through 1938.
