Between the golden anniversary of Title X on June 23 through the 2023 #NationalChampionship in Los Angeles, the College Football Playoff is showcasing the stories of trailblazing women who have impacted and advanced the sport of college football. This month, we feature Mary Vander Heiden and Kelli Pugh. Mary Vander Heiden, the UCF Knights' Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine, has served as UCF Football's Head Football Athletic Trainer since 2007. She became the first woman to win and only the second athletic trainer overall to receive the Dr. Robert Cade Sports Medicine Person of the Year by the Athletic Trainers Association of Florida (ATAF). Kelli Pugh, the Virginia Cavaliers' Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine, serves as Virginia Football's primary care provider.
