Meet Baby Shaquille, just one of the reasons Congenital Hyperinsulinism International, a patient-led organization, is working on a worldwide campaign to recognize glucose as an important vital sign to monitor in newborns. Congenital hyperinsulinism is a rare disease that causes too much insulin secretion. Left untreated, it can lead to brain damage. Better understanding of the underlying biology of hyperinsulinism could help up to 40% of newborn babies who have irregular insulin patterns. As part of the #RareAsOne Network, @chi_hypoglycemia has accelerated research to better understand this disease and better diagnose it in babies. They’re also ensuring that patient experience and insights about treatments are included in how doctors care for individuals with this disease. #RareAsOne #RareDisease #PediatricMedicine #biology #CongenitalHyperinsulinism #hypoglycemia #ShowYourStripes #RareDiseaseAwareness #RareDiseaseMonth #RareDiseaseAdvocacy
