You can also find an excerpt below: "In this particular series and throughout this residency at Centre[3], I have been focusing specifically on island print and island print fabric. I have been working with the idea of using island print as a specific trope or stand-in for the North American gaze of the Caribbean. So when you think of the island print, a lot of people instantly jump to the Caribbean as in the Caribbean cruises, tropics — but in fact, all the different islands are rich with their own specific cultures and peoples. And also when I think of the Caribbean and Trinidad, specifically — it is home for me and not necessarily an escape from home."
