We wanted to take some time to better highlight Hannah DeJonge. Due to COVID-19 restrictions earlier this year, Hannah's show Quilted Vessels was adapted from an in-person to an online exhibition. ⁠ ⁠ The following Q&A was provided to us by Hannah, who we are thankful to, for providing us with insight into her practice, and process and who showed us patience and understanding while we adapted.⁠ ⁠ What was the most surprising thing you learned while making this body of work? ⁠ ⁠ Before applying the screen-printed imagery on each vessel, I slow-dried and scraped the exterior surfaces. I really revelled in being able to control the moisture content of each piece as it was drying. Working with a grogged clay body, each stage brought on new, unexpected textures that’d I’d never experienced before.⁠ ⁠ What’s your favourite texture, by touch? ⁠ ⁠ It would have to be sand on a beach. There’s something about the associations of it as well – a body of water, warm sun – that bring it all together...
