The Spruce Run Creek Trail is tucked away in the Clatsop State Forest off U.S. 26 east of Cannon Beach. The trail runs nearly three miles between the Henry Rierson Spruce Run Campground (a first-come, first-served campground beside the creek) and Spruce Run Lake (a shallow, marshy lake that’s not suitable for much recreation). A hike to the end of the trail and back is about 5.6 miles, leading along Spruce Run Creek before heading steeply up into the Coast Range timberlands. Here, the lack of trees allows for sweeping views over the mountain range that stick around as the trail continues to climb.
