Sharp Edges is a poetic documentary following SCARPA athlete sharazaia as she explores identity, belonging, and resilience in the Assyrian diaspora through climbing.
The Assyrians are one of the world’s oldest civilizations, and also one of the most displaced. Indigenous to Mesopotamia, their roots stretch back over 6,775 years to the ancient cities of Ashur and Nineveh. Their contributions to mathematics, astronomy, and medicine helped shape human history.
Yet despite this legacy, Assyrians have faced centuries of persecution. During World War I, the Sayfo genocide killed two-thirds of the population. Today, ongoing displacement continues to push Assyrians from their ancestral homeland, threatening their language, Suret, and their cultural survival.
