Democratic Rep. Sarah McBride has responded to Republican Rep. Andrew Clyde’s misgendering of her when recognizing her to speak on the House floor on Tuesday 13 January.Sarah McBride, who is a trans woman, didn’t initially acknowledge Rep. Clyde’s misgendering remarks, but gave a response through a spokesperson to The Advocate on Friday (16 January), stating “I didn’t hear the comment, and I don’t know who Rep. Clyde is. As always, I am grateful to serve and remain focused on lowering costs for my constituents.” Rep. Clyde chose to escalate his remarks towards McBride on 15 January, posting a screenshot of the congressional record from McBride’s remarks on X. In the post, Clyde used McBride’s deadname, placed her first name in quotation marks, asserted she is a man, and claimed the House Clerk should alter the congressional record to reflect what he described as a ‘biological fact.’ #SarahMcBride #USPolitics #transwoman #LGBTQIA #Delaware #republicans
