A Maine school district has spoken out after reportedly being investigated by the U.S. Department of Education over a complaint about an alleged transgender member of one school’s co-ed cheerleading team. “Boys can join, girls can join. No one lost a place on the team because a transgender student joined,” Michael Hammer, a superintendent for the school district, said to the Portland Press Herald.
