The crazy thing about historical figures is that we often forgot how they’re just regular people with regular interests like any of us.
MLK was said to be a solid athlete and a huge baseball fan. Eventually, King used his interest to help secure the Atlanta Braves. In 1966, the Braves moved from Milwaukee to Atlanta but star player Hank Aaron had major concerns about going from a calmer racial scene in Wisconsin to the heart of the south.
But Dr. King was a huge fan of Aaron’s and expressed how sports is a connector and Aaron’s talent could be an avenue of integration. 60 years later, Hank is one the greatest players in baseball history and the Braves are a household name in professional baseball largely because of Hank Aaron.
