In Australia’s Northern Territory (NT), the age for criminal responsibility was briefly raised to 12 in 2023 but was lowered back to 10 in October 2024, allowing detention for 10-year-olds again, while the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) raised its age to 12 and is moving to 14 in 2025. So, while some areas are increasing the age, the NT has recently decreased it, reversing prior changes.
