He called it “a moral force,” a deliberate choice that rejects the idea that conflict must be solved through escalation. He was not suggesting we ignore injustice. He was saying that revenge and retaliation do not end conflict, they only prolong it. When we keep reacting this way, escalation becomes the only story we know how to tell. King’s message is that we need to move beyond that logic. We must learn to face conflict without becoming conflict ourselves.
