Come spend a solo travel day with me to Washington, D.C. for a very special day in my family’s history. 🪖
I was invited to attend the Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony honoring the 369th Infantry Regiment, known as the Harlem Hellfighters. These brave men—my great-grandfather Leander Willett among them—served heroically in World War I, and spent more time on the front lines than any American regiment (191 days). Because of racial discrimination within the U.S. military, the 369th was assigned to fight under the French Army—they wore American uniforms while carrying French weapons and serving alongside French troops. 🇫🇷
I know my mom wouldn’t have wanted to miss seeing her grandfather honored this way—and I carried her with me every step of the way. 🤍
I can’t wait to share more from the trip and the ceremony!🎖️
