My Mami and I always bonded over true crime and LA history. I loved hearing her stories while driving around, with her saying things like, “Aquí pasó esto,” or share places they watched their favorite artist. I started creating content for itsanlathingpod to feel closer to her, to be in the spaces she had once been in. I just want to feel closer to her in any way possible. The milliondollartheater, in particular, is such a special place for me because of all the stories my Mami would tell us about it. It was a place where she felt safe, welcomed, and could forget the heaviness of her life for a moment. Being young, alone, and recently immigrating to this country must have been so hard.
