The UC Board of Regents will vote today on new rules for investigations into faculty code of conduct violations. The proposal would create a set of standardized investigation procedures across the 10 UC campuses and set deadlines for stages of an inquiry to be completed.
The proposal would establish a Systemwide Reserve Privilege and Tenure, or P&T, Pool to act in investigations into violations of “unacceptable behavior,” including discrimination or violation of Time, Place, and Manner practices for protest. Currently, the Berkeley P&T committee is responsible for adjudicating grievance, disciplinary and early termination cases on campus.
“(The updated discipline policies and procedures) will increase the efficiency of UC’s faculty discipline process, reduce time to resolve cases, and promote a more consistent application of policy across our campuses,” said UC Office of the President spokesperson Stett Holbrook in an email.
