When developer and co-owner Andy Vis started planning a new restaurant and bar for Johnston, the name “Zeke’s” came from a surprising place: an architect’s rendering. One of the architects working on the building also happened to be working on a church project with Vis. “The first rendering he had on this building said ‘Ezekiel’ on the side,” Vis said. At first, they assumed it was just a biblical nod. Then, after the architect passed away during COVID, the name took on deeper roots. The new restaurant, named for one of Johnston’s earliest settlers, opens on Jan. 23. zekesrooftopandgrill spans two levels and more than 10,000 square feet with a rooftop deck, event space, three bars, and a menu built for everything from game-day snacks to pot roast pizza and steak dinners.
