We wanted to deep dive into the term “QUEENS.” We’ve gotten a lot of criticism for using the term “queens” when we refer to our kids, so we wanted to give you all a little bit of background into how this team at Corner Canyon came to be called the queens.
In 2022 our team was very defeated. We lost state and were heading into nationals with a team that didn’t believe in their value, talent, or self worth. I spent $30 on Amazon and bought them all plastic crowns to wear the remainder of the season to remind them of how talented and amazing that they truly were. We didn’t win nationals that year, but our kids were confident and they hit in finals and thrived. They finally believed in themselves. And somehow, the term “queens” just stuck.
Fast forward to 2026–we have a very different team and children, but we call them queens to remind them of who they are and what they are capable of no matter the outcome. We are proud to call them ours, and all across the country, the term “queens” ...
