The $14 billion data center campus part of Project Marvel appears to be moving from its proposed and protested site in rural Alabama. Bessemer officials and the developer backing the hyperscale project have agreed to move to a different site after concerns from local residents and issues with the planned Northern Beltline. It’s unclear exactly where the data center campus will move. The city said it had identified “additional land adjacent to the currently zoned parcel,” which was nearly 700 acres that the city voted to rezone in November. The project has been met with resistance from local residents, who packed out public meetings, expressing concerns over noise, electricity and water usage, environmental protection and other issues. Inside Climate News reported the developer plans to request the rezoning of another 900 acres.
