If you needed an excuse to do the opposite of what you normally do, today is your day, because January 25th is National Opposite Day!
For today, Howard letterpress printed the largest (30 line pica) and the smallest (10 line pica) wood type that we have in our print shop exhibit at the Sacramento History Museum of the French Clarendon typeface. There are definitely smaller and larger fonts than this in existence, but this is what we have at our museum (we obviously have a lot smaller lead type in different fonts).
To add to being opposites, the word “SMALL” was printed in the biggest font and “BIG” was printed in the smallest font. This was printed with purple oil base ink using our Washington hand press.
