A new look through NASAWebb’s Mid-Infrared Instrument reveals Cassiopeia A (Cas A) in a new light. Cas A is a massive star remnant that exploded about 340 years ago from Earth's perspective, despite being 11,000 light-years away.⁣ ⁣ Here are the spark notes (literally):⁣ Outer layers of the bubble on the top and left hold curtains of material appearing orange and red due to emission from the warm dust. This is where ejected material from the exploded star is ramming into surrounding gas and dust.⁣ ⁣ The interior of this outer shell is spotted with bright pink filaments, studded with clumps and knots.
