Have you ever heard of a whistling pig? How about a rock chuck? They're commonly called Olympic Marmots, but no matter what name they go by, we have hopeful news for them and almost a dozen other species! In response to petitions from the Center for Biological Diversity and other groups, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service just announced that 10 species across the country warrant consideration for protection under the Endangered Species Act. These species include Washington’s Olympic marmot and gray cat’s eye plant, Oregon’s Alvord chub fish, Donner und Blitzen pebblesnail and wonder caddisfly, and California’s Mount Pinos sooty grouse and San Joaquin tiger beetle.
