Laura Weyrich, associate professor of anthropology and of bioethics, has been selected to receive support from Penn State Commercialization GAP Fund to further her research. The GAP Fund is university-wide competitive program that aims to bridge academic research and industry adoption. 🦷🔬 The project, one of eight to receive funding, could change how we prevent cavities forever. "Oral Microbiome Transplants (OMT) Therapy to Prevent Dental Decay," done in partnership with uniofadelaide, investigates whether transplanting healthy bacteria from one person's mouth to another's can help prevent cavities restoring a healthier balance. The goal is to "reseed" the mouth with protective bacteria that crowd out the harmful ones, reducing the risk of dental decay and supporting better oral health.
