Just a reminder that you’re not “wasting” your degree(s) if your path looks different now that you’re raising a family.
I’m a practicing estate planning attorney and I love what I do. I also intentionally limit the number of matters I take on each month so I can give my kids what they need while delivering high-touch, focused representation for my clients. Could I be going harder in my practice? Of course. Is it worth it to me during this season of life? Absolutely not.
The skills I gained in law school—critical thinking, problem-solving, strategic planning, mindfulness (!!!!!), time management, etc. aren’t only used in practice. They show up at the kitchen table, on the floor with blocks in hand, and when my kids ask questions about the world around them and I answer using the Socratic Method: Kiddie Edition. Just kidding… sort of. 😆
