[ASRV LABS] Experiment 002: Buckle Strength Test For the second ASRV Labs experiment, we evaluated the load tolerance of hardware used across our duffles, backpacks, and cross-body bags. The COBRA® buckle, one of the highest load-rated components in our lineup, was selected as the first test. Rated at 449 lbs, the COBRA® buckle is widely regarded for its strength and reliability. To validate that rating, we fabricated a custom testing rig in our studio. A commercially viable vinyl strap was affixed to both ends of the buckle: one end attached to a dynamometer and the other progressively loaded with calibrated weight plates. Using a controlled winch system, we incrementally increased load until structural failure occurred. The result: the buckle sustained 745+ lbs before breaking. Roughly 66% higher than the stated capacity. ASRV Labs exists to verify the performance of the technology and hardware integrated into every product we make.
