My dad and zeide (grandfather, in Yiddish) laughed during the Holocaust. Not a sentence you expect to read, yet laughter was essential to survival. Whether it was lifting the spirits of fellow prisoners or creating small bonds of humanity with a German soldier, humor became their way through the darkness.
