A six-minute recorded phone call between Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin and Jefferson County Commissioner Lashunda Scales captures a tense exchange marked by accusations, political threats, and long-simmering personal animosity between the veteran leaders. Woodfin in the exchange accused Scales of telling the public that he was endorsing her opponent, Shonae Eddins-Bennett. Eddins-Bennett, Birmingham’s parks and recreation director, was challenging Scales for her District 1 commission seat. Eddins-Bennett had announced her candidacy, but has since withdrawn her name from the qualifying list. In the phone call, Woodfin threatened to actively support Scales’ political opponent if she did not stop talking about him. AL.com reached out to Mayor Woodfin directly, his office and his campaign for comment but has not heard back. #LashundaScales #RandallWoodfin #birminghamalabama #birminghamal #citycouncil #localnews
