American music legend Bruce Springsteen has publicly come out in support of ICE protestors with a new song dedicated to them. Upon the release of ‘Streets of Minneapolis’ on 28 January, Springsteen wrote on his website: “I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good. Stay free.” The lyrics mention by Good, who was killed by an ICE agent on 7 January, and Pretti, who was fatally shot by a Border Patrol officer on 24 January, by name. “There were bloody footprints where mercy should have stood and two dead left to die on snow-filled streets, Alex Pretti and Renee Good,” the ‘Born in the USA’ artist sings.
