Donations from agriculture companies and other organizations are one way food banks are able to replenish their stock and help Iowans around the state feed their families, said Annette Hacker, chief communications and strategy officer at the Food Bank of Iowa, headquartered in Des Moines. They often turn to creative ways to source food, particularly at a time when food costs are rising and federal grants are more uncertain. Federal funding cuts, rising grocery prices and varying trade policies, including tariffs, are some factors that impact the amount and the kinds of items FBOI receives, said Emily Shearer, vice president of food acquisition and advocacy at Food Bank of Iowa.
