In “Alejandro Cartagena: Ground Rules,” more than two decades of work capture the complexities of suburban sprawl, the US-Mexico border, and increasing economic inequality. “Carpoolers,” one of Cartagena’s most recognized series, features aerial views of pickup trucks carrying workers on their daily commute across the rapidly expanding suburbs of Monterrey, Mexico. This exhibition invites us to look closely at the structures —visible and invisible—that govern how we live and move. Visitors speak to the lasting emotional impact of this work.
