It’s a bird, it’s a plane! It’s actually a carton of dried blood plasma being dropped via parachute from a U.S. Navy aircraft. In 1942, the Red Cross chapter in Southeast Pennsylvania helped the U.S. military test how blood can be delivered safely from planes to military bases that were in need of blood.
