What happens to marine life during extreme weather events? When water temperatures drop below 50°F (10°C), sea turtles can become cold-stunned. This is the reptile equivalent of hypothermia. Like iguanas falling from trees, cold-stunned turtles become lethargic and can lose buoyancy, which can be fatal. We’re so grateful for organizations who have been working around the clock to save these turtles! For example, gulfspecimenaquarium is hard at work preparing to take in around 1000 cold-stunned turtles this season, but they need your help.
