The United Nations is facing an "imminent financial collapse," according to a letter from the UN chief to member states. António Guterres said the body faced a financial crisis which was "deepening, threatening programme delivery", and that money could run out by July because member states were not paying their fees. The US has cut voluntary funding and withheld mandatory payments to the UN's regular and peacekeeping budgets. Founded in 1945, the 193-member state UN aims to maintain peace, promote human rights, foster development, and coordinate aid.
