For years, Tifani Smith has carried the weight of her family’s survival on her shoulders – three children, each with their own dreams, challenges and gifts. She’s done it all with quiet determination, often pushing through uncertainty with one thought in mind: “I need to be better for my children.” That resolve kept her family together through some of their darkest times, including years of homelessness. The kids spent weeks heading off to school after sleeping in their car or the chairs of a friend’s barbershop, unsure where they might stay the next night. “It was a lot. I couldn’t find anything,” Tifani said.
