Back in the day... 2016. ⏳ 🐧 The Detroit Zoo was a flurry of activity 10 years ago. The Polk Penguin Conservation Center welcomed its penguin residents down the blue carpet in March and officially opened to the public in April. 🦒 We also welcomed giraffe baby Zawadi to parents Jabari and Kivuli on August 6th, 2016. Since then, Zawadi has moved to a different Zoo, but you can still visit her brother, Mpenzi and half-sister, Okidi. 🐸 2016 was also the year that Trinity was sworn in as Mayor of Amphibiville. Over the years that followed, Trinity worked tirelessly with the Zoo to raise awareness about amphibious species, was honored by many environmental groups, and had December 1-7 declared a statewide Amphibian Conservation Awareness Week. What a banner year!
