Those lyrics sum what it feels like to have a disability, as if it feels like your own body can hurt you more than any one person ever could.
I've fallen three times this week. I dislocated my right big toe for the eighth time in the last four years.
July is disability pride month and my views on this concept have changed so much. Initially the grief caused by my loss of mobility and the obsession with living in the past instead of celebrating the positive things in my life were breaking me down.
However, now I stand as a very different person. I have grown so much mentally and emotionally. I didn't want to give up on the things I loved, like basketball, golf, and working out.
I've figured out ways to make them work, even with limitations. Whether it's flatfooted shooting on the court, a golf swing without bending my knees, or adaptable workouts. They all are different...but they are something.
