No kick. No snare. Just percussive groove.
Here, we’re stripping ‘Touch My Soul’ right down — shaker, congas, and keys. No full drum kit, no layered production. Just the feel.
When you take away the Western drums, you’re left with something raw. And you can really hear where the swing lives — in the spaces between, in the tension and release of the groove.
This is how I grew up understanding rhythm. Through Yoruba drumming, where every sound has purpose and every silence has weight. Where movement and music are one.
The question isn’t how much you can add — it’s what remains when you take things away.
Does the song still stand?
