This song is a love letter to my parents.
They left Nigeria in search of a new life when I was still very young. Like many, I am a child of the diaspora - seeded in Nigeria yet rooted on British soil.
I have such strong memories of my parents putting on ‘E pee Jehova’ by King Sunny Ade every Sunday, almost like a ritual of remembrance for our homeland.
With my first band Yoruba Jazz People, we used to play that song as a cover. On the new album in ‘Everyday’, I offer an even fuller honouring of the memory.
