A mighty tree falls in the forest... These words begin the journey into this album, paying homage to the giants who came before us and those we’ve lost along the way. Igi Nla is a funeral dirge traditionally sung to honour great leaders and remarkable souls. I learned this powerful song from Moji Kareem during my time in the Yoruba adaptation of ‘The Duchess of Malfi.’ It was the heartbeat of the play, and with her blessing, I’ve brought it to this album to honour my own family. Between 2019-21, I lost my younger brother Segun, my mum, and my dad. This song is my offering to them—a way to remember, to grieve, and to celebrate their lives as valiant warriors who paved the way. The words are not only a farewell: “Until we cross paths again... in eternity.” For everyone who carries the weight of loss and the beauty of memories, this one’s for you. Comment “STREAM” and I’ll send you a link to listen to this track and the others on my new album ‘How Should I: Part I’ #solaakingbo...
