In music, as in life, we can learn a lot from slowing things down. It is often easier for us to rush through things and feel like we have mastery over it but when we slow something down, we get to see more clearly where there is still room for improvement and the opportunity to build strength and, ultimately, confidence. In this scene, I asked the band to slow the groove right down so we could get more of an intimate feel for the relationship between the rhythm and the melody. The better something is played slowly, the better it will then sound when its then sped up.
