They were often planted on tombs as memorials, and in Virgil’s Aeneid, the Stygian Elm guards the Underworld ⁠ ⁠ 🧚 Celtic elves and faeries were believed to make their homes in the branches of the elm tree⁠ ⁠ 🪦 For a number of years, elms served as hanging trees throughout Europe.
