Pumpkin plot twist (the true kind 🎃):⁠ Jack-o’-lanterns are pumpkins—usually varieties of Cucurbita pepo. But “pumpkin” isn’t just one species. It can get confusing... especially when you start thinking about holiday baking and what is really in that pumpkin can? ⁠ ⁠ Often it is Cucurbita moschata (think Dickinson types) - a squash more closely related to zucchini - great pies can also come from C. maxima and C. pepo.
