Kayaking from Argo Park Livery to Gallup Park was one of our favorite mornings in Ann Arbor. With that said, it was actually MY favorite activity of the whole summer! I never knew this existed when I was a student at the University of Michigan in the late 90s.
The 3.7 mile journey down the Huron River was just stunning. This wonderful experience allowed me to see my beloved Ann Arbor in an entirely new way (literally and figuratively).
From our kayaks (my nine year old son and I had a double, my 11 year old son and husband had a double, and our 15 year-old daughter had a solo) we saw all kinds of birds, fish, and even turtles.
The kayaking is at a beginner level. You start by going down a series of nine natural cascades (fun little slides) and then the river opens up with a mild current taking you from one park to the other.
