The federal government says it will continue planning to relocate Chattanooga's federal courthouse building to a Vine Street location despite preference by local leaders for a different site, according to a letter obtained by the Chattanooga Times Free Press. The letter was sent Friday by Edward C. Forst, the administrator of the General Services Administration, which oversees most federal buildings, to local leaders and stakeholders. "The replacement of this courthouse is not a discretionary matter," Forst's letter said, "but an imperative to ensure the safety of judges, court personnel, litigants and the public."
